Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term coach his previous coach.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.
It is his maiden championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after spring of 2023.
Success also means he has secured 21 victories at twenty-one various competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on court had caused some to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.
But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced service.
He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.
He defended 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
