Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to take a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
